BrandyOn Monday, February 23, at 6:30 p.m. on the 300 block of Colorado Avenue, a vehicle made an illegal u-turn that was witnessed by a patrolling SMPD officer. The officer conducted a traffic stop, and after speaking with the driver, discovered that he (the driver) had a suspended license. On top of that the officer learned that the driver had a “no bail” warrant, and saw an open bottle of brandy in the vehicle. The man was arrested and booked for driving on a suspended license, possession of an open alcoholic beverage container inside of a vehicle, violation of probation, and the outstanding warrant. He was not, however, DUI.ScrewdriverAt 3:34 p.m. on Tuesday, February 24, officers visited Sephora, a cosmetics emporium located on the 1200 block of the Third Street Promenade, to investigate a report of a theft. The store’s loss prevention agent informed them that a woman had been seen leaving the store with cosmetic items valued at $181.50 without paying for them. The agent detained the woman, and when the officers arrived they questioned the woman, and discovered that she had possibly stolen other items from a nearby Victoria’s Secret prior to stealing the cosmetics. The woman was also found to be in possession of a screwdriver, a device commonly used to break off security sensors from store merchandise. The woman was booked for commercial burglary and possession of burglary tools.MargaritaOn Wednesday, February 25, at 8:18 p.m., officers visited Cabo Cantina, located at the 1200 block of Third Street Promenade, on a report of an assault with a deadly weapon. The female victim informed the officers that a drunken patron, whom the staff had attempted to remove from the premises, had become upset upon being told that police were on their way to the Cantina, and had decided to express that consternation by throwing a full glass of margarita at the victim, striking her in the face. While a staff member was detaining the patron, he (the patron) threw his cell phone that struck two other patrons who were sitting in the Cantina. The officers arrested the patron and he was booked for assault with a deadly weapon and (unlucky?) seven outstanding warrants.CocaineAt 6:20 p.m. on Thursday, February 26, at the 2400 block of 34th Street, officers responded to a report of a man smoking narcotics in a vehicle parked on the street. Officers approached the car and observed a man sitting inside with a crack pipe. The officers arrested the man, searched the car, and found a small quantity of cocaine inside the vehicle. He was booked for possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.
