Mother’s Day is almost upon us, and what better way to reward The Queen of the family than with a delightful dinner at one the many restaurants in Santa Monica offering choice Mother’s Day menus. This week we take a look at some of the restaurants that are giving a special welcome to mothers, with some maternally inspired dishes, and a special welcome for mom on Sunday, May 10th.Ye Olde Kings Head, located at 116 Santa Monica Boulevard has a thoughtful menu and a warm British welcome on Mother’s Day, with a selection that includes a Tomato Soup ($4.95), a Traditional Sunday Roast (roast beef, lamb or vegetarian, with mint sauce, roast potatoes, Yorkshire pudding, mixed vegetables and gravy, $14.95), and a delicious Mixed Berry Cheesecake ($7.50). There will also be a complimentary glass of Champagne to all mothers aged 21 and over (a pamphlet about birth control for those under 21, possibly?). Sounds like it could be a night that mom will remember!For $35.00 per head, The Border Grill at 1445 4th Street is offering an exciting Mother’s Day Brunch, infused with a tasty Latin flair. The options are extensive, and include a Dungeness Crab Benedict (with fresh pea arepas, grilled tomato, chipotle hollandaise, and crispy Serrano ham; served with garlic potatoes and avocado), a Chicken Milanesa (Argentine favorite of pounded thin, lightly breaded chicken breast with roasted garlic ancho chile sauce; topped with a fried egg and served with sautéed potatoes and green bean salad), a healthy Pan Seared Tilapia (marinated in garlic, cilantro, and fresh lime with roasted pepper basil coulis, celery root puree, and sautéed spinach), and an Asparagus Shrimp Omelet (Oaxaca cream sauce, sautéed spinach, caramelized peppers and onions,served with roasted potatoes, oven dried tomato aioli, and hydroponic watercress salad). On top (or after) all of that, moms can enjoy one of a trio of desserts; Mexican Coffee Profiterole (large cream puff filled with homemade Mexican coffee ice cream, and whipped cream; topped with chocolate sauce), Aztec Chocolate Cake (with whipped crema and spicy pecans), and their Tequila Upside Down Cake (with flambéed spiced pineapple, banana, and mango salsa).Catch at Casa del Mar (1910 Ocean Way) also boasts a fixe prix menu of three courses that include Chilled Mexican Prawns (crisp vegetables and gazpacho coulis), Sweet Corn Soup (Dungeness crab and corn relish), and Delta Asparagus (Meyer lemon and reggiano) to start, Free Range Chicken (roasted market vegetables and thyme), Colorado Lamb (gnocchi, fava beans and mint), and Wild King Salmon (crushed spring peas and chanterelles) for the main course, and Caramelized Peach Tart, Warm Chocolate Hazelnut Cake or Proscetto Granita (blueberry sorbet, candied lemon and huckleberries) to round things off, all for $65.00 per person.FIG Restaurant, at 101 Wilshire Boulevard will marvel mom with an a la carte menu that includes; Onion Soup Gratinee ($11.00) and Braised Tongue ($9.00), to start and some stunning main courses including Vegetable Risotto ($17.00), Local Halibut ($26.00), and Duck Margret ($26.00). If the lady of the house has a penchant for a seasonal bistro with an emphasis on fresh organic produce, then she is sure to find favor at Fig.One Pico at Shutters On The Beach will be celebrating Mother’s Day with a menu that is sure to satiate the most demanding of palates. The three course special menu includes Chilled Mexican Prawns (crisp vegetables and gazpacho coulis), and Hearts of Romaine (roasted garlic, Caesar dressing and focaccia crouton) for course one. Course two offers six choices including Prime Beef Filet Mignon (Yukon gold potato puree and asparagus), and Cheese Agnolotti (heirloom cherry tomatoes and ricotta salata), whilst dessert includes a Caramelized Peach Tart.Finally, Cezanne at Le Merigot Hotel (1740 Ocean Avenue) has a luxurious brunch available on The Day from 11:30 a.m. onwards.
