Venice Eco-Fest, June 27, 10am-6pm, free, Venice Beach at Windward Ave., Venice, VeniceEcoFest.org.

This is huge- an environmental festival with over 150 environmental groups and educators exhibiting, a parade with Grand Marshalls Angelica Huston and Los Angeles Councilmember Bill Rosendahl, and performers including The Backboners, Lisa Haley and Zydekats, The Vegan Vixons, Harissa Bellydance Theater and The California Dance Institute. It’s LA’s biggest “green” festival and a great way to kick off summer.

Another ritual for beginning the summer, the Main Street Summer Solstice features sidewalks sales by local businesses, a scavenger hunt with prizes provided by the businesses (you can win dinner at a restaurant), circus acts, a petting zoo, and live bands ranging from the ever-popular The Neil Deal (Neil Young tribute) to local faves The Paul Chesne Band.
