Brentwood Shuts Out Opponent:

The Brentwood School offense isn’t as imposing this season but the defense has been the strength of the Eagles’ football team.

Brentwood shut out Calvary Chapel Saturday afternoon, 18-0, and Coach Patrick Brown said the unit has been solid all season.

“The only time we’ve given up much was when the defense was put in a bad position to start a drive,’ he said.

In this game linebacker Alex Kelln had 11 tackles and defensive back Greg Caruso intercepted two passes.

Brentwood tried to control the game with its running attack but the visitors adjusted their defense. As a result Brentwood passed more often than usual and completed 10 of 15 for 136 yards. Daniel James caught three for 81 yards.

The Eagles went ahead 8-0 on a touchdown pass from Caruso to Ray Nicholson and a two-point conversion pass thrown by holder Nick Auil.

The lead grew to 15-0 on a third quarter 25-yard touchdown run by Evan Morris and then Spencer Ramsey kicked a 32-yard field goal.

Brentwood might have won by a greater margin had it not been penalized nine times. Two Brentwood touchdowns were wiped out by holding calls.

Brentwood’s final regular season game will be played at home Friday at 2:15 against Kilpatrick. The Eagles are 5-4 overall, including 4-2 in the Alpha League.
