The Santa Monica High boys basketball team won two more games last week in its recovery from a slow start to the season.

The Vikings lost three of their first four games but now have a 9-5 record following one-sided home wins over Redondo (71-43) and Mira Costa (68-43).

In Friday’s game against Mira Costs Samohi outscored the vusitors in the fourth quarter, 29-9.

Solomon Singer had 20 points and seven rebounds, James Montgomery scored 17 and Cory Walker had 13, including 11 in the fourth quarter.

“I’m really pleased,” said Coach James Hecht.

“We had a very good week.”

The competition will be more difficult in the next three games. Santa Monica will begin its Ocean League schedule at Morningside Wednesday night, January 13, will host Inglrwood on Froday and will travel to Los Osos for a one-day event Monday. In that game Samohi will play Etiwanda, which has defeated them this season.

There is no clear-cut favorite to win the Ocean League but all six teams have had some success in non-league contests.

Morningside has played one game against a Westside opponent. It routed St. Monica, 88-43 in a tournament game in Redondo.
