Samohi’s Malone Signs With Villanova:

Keelan Malone, Santa Monica High’s all-Ocean League linebacker, has signed a letter of intent to play football at Villanova.

“I am truly grateful for this opportunity and for the options that were presented to me by other universities,” he said.

Among other schools considered by Malone were University of San Diego, Redlands, UC Davis and Georgetown.

Soon after becoming Samohi’s coach last season Travis Clark recognized the 6-foot-1, 238-pound Malone as not only one of the Vikings’ key players but also a senior with the ability to go onto college football.

Malone was voted Samohi’s defensive MVP.

Villanova is best known for its basketball teams but won the football championship in its division last season.
