Memorial Service for 1955 Crash in Santa Monica Bay:

On Friday, March 5, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at Dockweiler State Beach, the United States Air Force will conduct a memorial ceremony for 1st Lt. Richard M. Theiler and 1st. Lt. Paul D. Smith.

These Air Force pilots crashed into Santa Monica Bay on October 15, 1955. The wreck of their T-33A was located on May 20, 2009.

More than 50 next of kin will be in attendance. Following the beach side service family and media representatives will travel by boat to the crash site for a wreath laying ceremony. A fly-over by USAF jet fighters is also planned.
