Alert: Police Blotter:

He Said, She Said?

On Thursday, August 26, at 8:07 p.m., officers received a call notifying them that there was a “family disturbance” in progress in the 1500 block of Alley number four. Upon arrival they discovered a man and a woman. The officers asked them what was going on and the man said that they were returning from the beach when they began to argue. The woman said the same thing. The man appeared to be intoxicated, as did the woman. The man stated that the argument had evolved into a physical altercation and it was the woman’s fault. The woman said that it was the man’s fault. The man displayed physical evidence that he had been assaulted by showing the cops some scratches, abrasions, and red areas of his body. The woman then presented her own scratches, abrasions, and also reddened areas of her body. The cops, after hearing both parties blaming each other, acted in the fairest possible way by arresting both the male, a 23-year-old from Santa Monica, and the 21-year-old female from Los Angeles. The charges leveled were domestic violence for each one, and bail was a total of $50,000.

Art For Arts Sake?

On Thursday, August 26, at 9:40 a.m., officers were on a routine patrol at the 2900 block of Santa Monica Beach when they were flagged down by an employee of The City of Santa Monica. This city employee informed the officers that he had witnessed a man cutting the center from a palm tree. The city employee pointed out this man and the cops detained him in order to discover what he was up to. The man told the cops that he was cutting young palm fronds to make art that he intended to sell at The Pier. The city employee advised the police that when the core palm fronds are severed, the tree is a total loss and will eventually die due to its inability to grow. The cops arrested this 19-year-old homeless man for felony vandalism, and transported him to Santa Monica Jail. While this “artist” was in the holding cell, he decided to continue to display his “talents” by carving the words “kill cops” into the bench. The cops noticed this “handiwork” and displayed their skills to him by tagging the charge of damage to a jail facility onto the original one. Bail is $21,000.

A Slip-Up?

On Friday, August 27, at 1:11 p.m., officers went to the Sears department store, located at the 300 block of Colorado Avenue, in response to a call from a loss prevention agent who had taken a person into custody for suspected theft. When the cops arrived, they heard from the loss prevention agent, who gave them a report of the sequence of events that had led to this person being placed into custody. This undercover agent said that this man entered the store, and selected a number of women’s undergarments, and also some headphones. The man the left the store without paying. The undercover agent placed this 53-year-old, possible cross dressing music enthusiast, of Redondo Beach under citizen’s arrest, and so the cops took him off to jail charged with petty (coat?) theft. Bail is $1,000.
