Alert: Police Blotter:

(Too) Close Encounter

On Friday, Nov.12, at 9:50 a.m., officers were called to the Video and Audio Center, located at 1131 Olympic Boulevard in response to a report of assault with a deadly weapon. Upon arrival the officers discovered that both the suspect and the victim were employees at the store. The officers learned that these two men had been arguing because the victim had accused the suspect of shoving his buttocks into his face (the cheek of it!). The victim had then bent over in order to read the serial number of a television set, whereupon the suspect had kicked the victim twice in the face. The victim had then lost consciousness and had been transported to a local hospital for treatment. While this was taking place the suspect had left the building, and officers were able to locate him in the area of Lincoln Boulevard and Pico Boulevard, where witnesses identified him. This 30-year-old man of Bell was arrested for assault with a deadly weapon. Bail was $30,000.

Home Sweet Car

On Friday, Nov. 12, at 11:37 p.m., officers attended a domestic violence call in the area of Sixth Street and Colorado Avenue after a passer-by had heard screams and had witnessed a suspect hitting a woman. When they arrived, the officers questioned the victim who gave them the low-down on what had occurred. Apparently this couple lived together in their car, that had become their “home,” and the boyfriend had complained about the volume of sound that had been emanating from the laptop computer that she had been using (a little difficult to simply go to another room, under the circumstances). The argument had become heated whereupon the boyfriend had exited the front passenger door of their “home” and entered the rear passenger area, where the victim had been situated. The boyfriend had then held the woman down and had been hitting her and shaking her. The woman had attempted to call the police using her cell-phone, but the boyfriend had grabbed her wrist, thus preventing her from actually making the call. The woman eventually broke free, exited the “home,” and tried to make a break for it, but the boyfriend chased her and pushed her back into the “home.” After further struggles over the phone the boyfriend had exited the “home,” retrieved an item from the trunk, and left the scene. The officers subsequently located the boyfriend in the 1500 block of Fourth Street, where they arrested him for intimidating a witness, and domestic battery. The bail for this 26-year-old man was $100,000.

Crouching Men, Hidden Cutters

On Saturday, Nov. 13, at 4:47 p.m., a patrolling officer saw two men who appeared to be crouching behind parked vehicles on the 2500 block of Third Street. The officer, aware that there had been a spate of auto burglaries, and bicycle thefts in the area, swung his car around to investigate. As he did that, he saw the two men stand up and begin to walk away. The officer detained these two men at the intersection of Third Street and Mills Street. One of the men was carrying a backpack, and the officer asked if he could search it, whereupon the man agreed. The officer looked inside and discovered a pair of bolt cutters. The officer questioned these two men and they admitted that they had caught a bus from their homes in Los Angeles in order to come to Santa Monica to steal bicycles. The officer arrested these two 18-year-olds for possession of burglary tools, and conspiracy. They each had bail set at $500.
