Alert: Police Blotter:

Who Wants a Fight?

On Thursday, Dec. 2, at 2:40 p.m., officers happened to be on patrol around the area of Sixth Street and Santa Monica Boulevard when they witnessed a young man walk up to another person and punch him in the face, causing him to fall to the ground. This young man then stood over the fallen man and continued to hit him. The officer who had seen this act exited his police cruiser and ran over to assist the victim. The young man, upon seeing the advancing officer, adopted a fighting stance toward the policeman, as a sign that he was going to do battle, and this was not going to be easy for the officer. The officer, however, had other ideas, and was able to subdue this combat-crazed individual. The officer then heard from the victim, who said that he had no idea why this young man had hit him in the first place. The officer then arrested this 23-year-old man for battery, obstructing a police officer, and public fighting. His bail was set at $500.

Armed and Cleaning?

On Thursday, Dec. 2, officers went to the 1200 block of 12th Street in response to a report of a gunshot. The reporting person had stated that he had heard a man yelling inside an apartment, followed by a gunshot, and that the yelling had suddenly stopped (sounds ominous!). Upon arrival the officers began to communicate with a man inside the residence, who told the officers that he was cleaning, and had a gun (huh?). After a while however, the man stated that he did not have a gun at all (for a second time, huh?). The officers called S.W.A.T., as well as Crisis Negotiation Team. After an hour-and-a-half of dialogue, the man exited the residence. Officers then searched the residence but did not find any evidence of, or a gun. The 45-year-old Santa Monica man was arrested for obstruction of a police officer. His bail was set at $10,000.

He Was Identified

On Friday, Dec. 3, at 8:47 p.m., officers went to the Rite-Aid store located on the 1300 block of Wilshire Boulevard, responding to a report of a theft. The cops learned that the suspect, a 21-year-old man wearing a Staples shirt and name badge, had entered the tobacco area, stuffed some cigars down his pants, and fled the store. Officers simply went to Staples and the man was identified and arrested for petty theft. His bail was $1000.

Bite Leads to Choking

On Saturday, Dec. 4, at 5:15 a.m., officers went to the Shutters Hotel regarding trouble, the specifics of which were unknown to them as they made their way to the location. When they arrived, a woman dressed in only her underwear greeted them (hello officers). She stated that she had been out to dinner and a nightclub in West Hollywood with her boyfriend that night, and during their dining and clubbing excursion they had consumed “several” bottles of wine, and that the consumption which had caused them to become very drunk. They had then taken a taxi back to Shutters. When they entered their room, she told the officers that they became involved in an argument, and that she thinks she had hit the boyfriend (just the one time, mind you), but did not think that she had bitten him.

She was not entirely sure about the biting part because of her drunken state. She then said that she had been lying on the bed whereupon the boyfriend began to choke her. This act caused her to fear for her safety, so she ran to the hotel lobby and called for help. Officers then spoke with the boyfriend, who told them that he had locked himself out of the room, and that after the girlfriend opened the door she began hitting and biting him for no apparent reason. He added that he tried to restrain her, and in doing so, may have put his hands around her neck in order to stop her behavior. The officers arrested this 44-year-old man from Vancouver, British Columbia on suspicion of domestic violence. His bail was set at $20,000.
