Pedestrian Punches Driver: APB: Making a Point

On Friday, Jan. 28, at 8:05 p.m., officers went to the 2700 block of Wilshire Boulevard in response to a report of an assault with a deadly weapon. When they arrived at the scene, the officers spoke with the victim who told them that he had been driving southbound on Harvard Street, then attempted to make a right turn onto Wilshire Boulevard. Amidst this turn, there was a pedestrian on the crosswalk, and at that moment the pedestrian confronted the driver and told him not to block the crosswalk.

The pedestrian then attempted to assault the driver, who attempted to drive away at that point. The victim had to stop, however, because the point-making pedestrian was by then standing in front of the victim’s vehicle.

The pedestrian the walked up to the driver and punched him in the face. The victim then exited his vehicle and the pedestrian punched him a second time. The two men then became entangled in a struggle and fell, wrestling, to the ground. The pedestrian then produced a screwdriver (the tool, not the beverage) and stabbed the victim with it twice in the forearm. The pedestrian then fled the scene, but the officers soon located him, and arrested and charged this 54-year-old transient with assault with a deadly weapon. His bail was set at $30,000.
