Uncle Attempts Assault On Nephew With Bat: APB: Family Airs Dirty Laundry

Santa Monica Police Department officers arrested a man for allegedly trying to strike hi nephew with a baseball bat.

On Thursday, May 26, at 8:08 a.m., Santa Monica police officers went to the 1900 block of 12th Street in response to a report of a family disturbance in progress. When the officers arrived at the location they spoke with the victim (nephew) and the suspect (uncle).

The officers learned that these two had been involved in an argument over their laundry and that the uncle had gone to the garage and grabbed hold of a baseball bat in order to apparently resolve the argument in his favor without the use of words (or reason). The uncle attempted to do this by trying to strike the nephew about the head and body with the bat, but he failed to connect, and the victim managed to escape to his bedroom from where he had called the police. The nephew informed the officers that he was desirous of a prosecution, so the uncle, a 59-year-old Santa Monica resident, was arrested and charged with assault with a deadly weapon. His bail was set at $30,000. He was later bailed out and a court date is pending.
