Santa Monica Police Department officers arrest a British man who assaulted his girlfriend by attempting to push her out of a moving car and breaking her nose with a punch.
On Friday, May 27, at 7:12 p.m. officers went to the 1100 block of Second Street in response to a domestic violence report. When they arrived at the scene they met with the victim, who told them that she and her boyfriend lived together in England and were both in Santa Monica on vacation.
She told the officers that they had been arguing with each other since they returned from Las Vegas the night before, and that they had been in a car, and the boyfriend had threatened to throw her out of it at one point. However, that was not the climactic moment in the argument because it had progressed further and the boyfriend had indeed attempted to push the victim out of the passenger door of the vehicle, and she responded by pushing him back and hitting him in the mouth. The boyfriend then pulled the vehicle over in the 1100 block of Second Street and punched the victim hard in the nose with a clenched right fist. The victim then exited the car with a bleeding nose, and at that point was assisted by a passerby.
The victim was transported to a local hospital for treatment for a broken nose. The officers located the boyfriend nearby, and he was arrested and charged with domestic violence. The bail for this 48-year-old London man was set at $50,000, or just over 30,000 pounds at the current exchange rate.
