The Santa Monica High boys and girls basketball teams were both knocked out of the CIF playoffs in the first round last weekend. Playing at home, the boys were defeated by Esperanza High from Orange County, 52-35. Samohi, the No. 2 seed from the Ocean League, finished the season with a 16-11 record. Ocean League champion Inglewood won its first round game and advanced to a second round game against Redondo. The Santa Monica High girls team, also playing at home, lost to Millikan High of Long Beach, 30-28. The Samohi girls’ team was co-champion of the Ocean League and had a nine-game winning streak. Millikan was a wild card team that had to win a qualifying game to reach the first round. The girls finished 18-7.
