Woman Uses Stolen Briefcase to Attempt to Access Bank Account: APB: You Can’t Bank On It!

Santa Monica police arrested a woman attempting to use stolen information to access someone’s bank account.

On Thursday, July 14, at 9 a.m., officers of the Santa Monica Police Department went to the U.S. Bank branch located at 400 Wilshire Boulevard in response to a report of a fraud that was occurring. When they arrived at the scene, detectives (who had also traveled to the location) assisted them.

The detectives had detained a female suspect who attempted to gain access to a customers account. The officers discovered that the customer in question had his briefcase stolen a few days before, and that this woman was attempting to use the information contained within the briefcase to gain “Power of Attorney” over the customer’s account by way of fraud.

The customer was contacted and confirmed that he did not know this woman, and had certainly not authorized anyone else to have control over his accounts. Based upon this information the 26-year-old Inglewood woman was arrested, and charged with fraud, burglary, and attempting to cash false checks. Her bail was set at $50,000.
