Main Street Lights Up, Venice Boardwalk Tightens Up:

Last Thursday evening, Main Street’s new lights were turned on. Their primary purpose is to encourage more people to spend their evenings on Ocean Park’s principal  thoroughfare. Last Saturday, artists, street performers, musicians and advocates of every sort of cause gathered on the Venice Boardwalk to protest the Los Angeles City Council’s recent effort to regulate the Venice Beach Free Speech Zone by requiring persons to pay $25 fees for L.A. Recreation and Parks Department permits and then take part in a monthly lottery for 106 designated spaces on the west side of the boardwalk.
