The grand opening of exclusive store “Zouk Los Angeles” in Santa Monica will take place today, Monday Oct. 3.
An opening party was held at the store on Friday Night.
Jenny Best and Katharina Tagliaferro are the owners of the store located at 1311 Montana Avenue, where their discoveries from around the world come to Santa Monica.
More than 100 people attended the opening party, which included international appetizers (such as sushi, Australian Shepherd’s Pie, Baked Plantains, etc.) and a wine bar, to encompass the theme of “eclectic treasures from around the world.”
Some of the artifacts that were on display included a dining set from Portugal, Indian blankets and pillows, Moroccan candles, Thai candle holders with stingray skin, and many other unique international treasures.
About Zouk Los Angeles
The journey — arriving in a new chaotic country with a different language, colors, smells and culture is what Zouk is all about. Jenny and Katharina are two sisters who have lived on different continents, but love spending time together and love the adventure of traveling and discovering new places, cultures and beautiful unique handicraft and products.
Their aim with Zouk is for everyone who visits our shop to get a bit of that experience — to see the world with color and beauty.
There are always things happening during their trips that are not planned, such as ending up in the airport in Delhi, India with no return flight on New Years Eve. Or being invited to a poor Cambodian family’s hut for a fresh coconut because they wanted to show their gratitude for the help we have giving them through fundraising. During their trips to third world countries, they realized that a little help goes a long way.
That is why they came up with the idea of donating a certain percentage of our profit to charity and it’s up to the customer, to choose which charity is closest to their heart and you would like to support.
These are a list of charities they support.
1. Doctors Without Borders (International)
2. The American Foundation for AIDS Research (amFAR, National)
3. National Breast Cancer Foundation (National)
4. Green Peace (International)
5. World Food Program (WFP, International)
6. The Humane Society (National)
7. Ocean Park Community Center (Local)
