Trial Date Pushed Back For James ‘Whitey’ Bulger’s Girlfriend Following Their Santa Monica Arrest:

A federal judge has granted a request from the longtime girlfriend of former Boston crime boss James “Whitey” Bulger to delay the start of her trial next year on charges of helping the mobster elude authorities, according to FoxNews.com.

Catherine Greig has pleaded not guilty to a charge of conspiracy to harbor and conceal a fugitive following her Santa Monica arrest with Bulger in June.

As The Mirror previously reported, Greig’s trial had been scheduled to begin April 23.

However, Judge Douglas Woodlock on Wednesday granted a request to move the trial date to May 7 after her lawyer cited scheduling conflicts.

Greig did not attend the brief hearing.

Bulger and Greig were arrested at their residence in the 1000 block of Third Street on June 22 with a stash of about 30 firearms and $822,000 in cash hidden in holes in the wall of their apartment.

Bulger had been on the FBI’s 10 most wanted fugitive list for more than 15 years.

He fled Boston in the mid-1990s as FBI agents were about to arrest him in connection to his role in nearly two dozen murders committed from the early 1970s through the mid-1980s.

Bulger’s role in these murders is also tied to his leadership of an organized crime group that allegedly controlled extortion, drug deals, and other illegal activities in the Boston area.
