‘The Glory of Gershwin’ Tonight In Santa Monica At 7:30 p.m.:

Gershwin biographer and pianist Rodney Greenberg will bring the night alive.

Santa Monica College will present “The Glory of Gershwin” tonight, Friday Oct. 14, at The Broad Stage in Santa Monica.

This event will be a fascinating audiovisual portrait of the charismatic composer’s life and music, to start at 7:30 p.m.

The special evening features rare photos, vintage film, video and music clips, live piano and a sing-along to one of Gershwin’s memorable hits.

Bringing it alive is Rodney Greenberg, Gershwin biographer and pianist who has produced and directed more than 300 television music programs, including Emmy-winning telecasts for NBC.

Combining his broadcasting experience with a passion for Gershwin, he presents a one-of-a-kind event that includes the role of Gershwin’s lyric-writing brother Ira. Greenberg’s much-praised book on Gershwin, titled simply “George Gerswhin,” will be available in the foyer.

“The Glory of Gershwin” is sponsored by the SMC Associates, a private organization that funds speakers and special programs on campus, and the Media Policy Center, an organization that uses media to inform, challenge and engage a responsive citizenry.

The Broad Stage, SMC Performing Arts Center, Santa Monica Boulevard at 11th Street.

Tickets range from $20 (for students with current ID) to $45, and can be purchased by calling 310.434.3005 or online at www.smc.edu/eventsinfo.
