The Samohi Vikings kept their foot on the pedal by lighting up the scoreboard in their 45-26 win over Hawthorne on Friday night.
The win moves the Vikings to 9-1 and gives them an undefeated Ocean League crown.
And the St. Monica Mariners held on for a 7-6 win over St. Genevieve on Friday night. A late touchdown by Kevin Holubowski was countered when the Valiants scored on a long pass play. But the Mariners blocked the extra point and clung to the lead all the way through two defensive stands.
This is the Mariners’ second straight win with a 21-0 shutout of Bell-Jefferson last week. The momentum is needed after the drubbing St. Monica received against Salesian two weeks ago by the passing game of Salesian.
According to the brackets released Sunday morning, Samohi will host Channel Islands on Friday at Corsair Field, while St. Monica will travel to California City for the first round. Both games will start at 7:30 p.m.
