Senior Hunger Focus Of March For Meals Event:

Meals On Wheels West marked the 40th Anniversary of the inclusion of Senior Nutrition Programs in the Older Americans Act by inviting community stakeholders to deliver meals in March.

Santa Monica Mayor Richard Bloom and Malibu Mayor Pro Tem Lou La Monte went out on delivery routes to local homebound seniors.

Paul Leclerc, General Manager of Loews Santa Monica Hotel, also went out into the community to visit isolated neighbors riding along with a MOWW volunteer team.

The Loews Santa Monica Hotel has been a supporter of Meals On Wheels West for 20 years. On a daily basis, the hotel kitchen prepares meals that are delivered by volunteers in the area surrounding the hotel.

Leclerc said its employees felt good about supporting the program that addresses senior hunger through meal delivery and volunteer visits.

March For Meals is a national campaign held during the month of March, initiated and sponsored by the Meals On Wheels Association of America (MOWAA), to raise awareness of senior hunger and to encourage action on the part of local communities.
