The Legality Of Santa Monica’s New Smart Meters: Letter To The Editor:

Dear Editor,

I am wondering why no one has pointed out that the city of Santa Monica would impose sanctions, penalties and fees for illegally charging double rent in an apartment.

If someone moves out of an apartment prior to the end of the paid period, the landlord may not collect rent for that period from the new tenant, as well as the old tenant.

So, why is it legal for the city of Santa Monica to collect rent for the same time period from two individuals, when they rent a parking space?
