Cops Arrest 41-Year-Old Santa Monica Man For Punching Spouse: APB: Anti-Climax.

On Wednesday, June 13, at 11:39 a.m. officers of the Santa Monica Police Department were called out to the 1400 block of Lincoln Boulevard to investigate a report of an assault upon a woman by a man.

When the officers arrived they spoke with the victim who was visibly distraught by the experience and would only tell them that a man whom she identified only by a first name had hit her in the face.

The officers were in the process of attempting to obtain the last name of the suspect from the victim when a witness approached and pointed out the suspect who was at that time walking westbound on Santa Monica Boulevard.

The officers detained this man and as a result of their investigations discovered that the victim and the man had been involved in an “on again, off again, on again, off again” (and so on…) relationship for about two years.

On this occasion the man had visited the woman and, after they had engaged in sexual intercourse they had begun to argue.

It was during this post-coital argument that the man had punched the woman several times in the face prior to leaving.

The officers took this 41-year-old man, a resident of Santa Monica, off to jail where he was charged with spousal battery and a probation violation.

This person’s bail was set at $20,000. The victim was treated at the scene by paramedics but refused further medical help.

Editor’s Note: These reports are part of a regular police coverage series entitled “Alert Police Blotter” (APB), which injects some minor editorial into certain police activities in Santa Monica. Not all of the Mirror’s coverage of incidents involving police are portrayed in this manner. More serious crimes and police-related activities are regularly reported without editorial in the pages of the Santa Monica Mirror and its website, smmirror.com.
