Lincoln Middle School Physical Education Teacher Promoted To Assistant Principal:

Lincoln Middle School physical education teacher Sean Allstot will move into the assistant principal role while Jerry Block joins Malibu High as principal after working in the Oak Park Unified School District.

The Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District’s Board of Education approved the two appointments Wednesday night.

Sean Allstot

Allstot has been a physical education teacher at Lincoln Middle School for the past six years. In addition to his teaching position, Allstot participated on the school site council and served as chairperson of the Faculty Advisory Committee, eighth grade coordinator, yearbook advisor, and most recently as acting assistant principal following a mid-year vacancy at the school.

During his term as assistant principal, Allstot demonstrated his ability to be a consistent, flexible, and collaborative leader as he attended IEP and 504 Planning meetings, organized and facilitated end-of-year activities for eighth graders and the AVID program, and provided support for teachers.

Allstot is well-versed in addressing middle school students’ academic, physical, and emotional needs.

He collaborates with his peers to develop realistic and achievable goals for students, communicating information to students and their families in a positive, clear, and articulate manner.

He created a Homebase intervention class to help meet students’ academic needs as well as a Fitness Club to demonstrate and promote healthy choices.

A natural collaborator himself, Allstot has mentored eighth graders as they completed community service hours and presented culminating projects to answer the question, “What Makes a Good Citizen of the Community?”

Jerry Block

Block comes to SMMUSD from the Oak Park Unified School District, where he has been serving as the Assistant Principal of Curriculum and Instruction at Oak Park High School for the past seven years.

Prior to that, Block served as Coordinator for Testing and Staff Development at Calabasas High School, BTSA Support Provider at Las Virgenes Unified School District, and Chair of the Foreign Language Department at Calabasas High School.

As Assistant Principal, he set and modeled high standards for teachers in implementing core standards and integrating technology into the classroom.

He developed a modern language program and secured a grant that allowed for Mandarin Chinese instruction grades 5-12, including the AP level.

Under his leadership, Oak Park High School’s API surpassed the 900 mark, the ROP program expanded, and the school received a six-year WASC accreditation.

Block’s past experience as a computer consultant and programmer allowed him to serve as the coordinator for his district’s new student information system as well as to develop software to track students’ accommodations and modifications (IEPs and 504s), Response to Intervention progress, and student discipline patterns.

Block is well-versed in fostering a positive school climate and relationships with parents and the community.

Thanks to his leadership in implementing Safe School Ambassadors and Peer Counselors, Oak Park High School was named a “No Place for Hate” school by the Anti-Defamation League.

His genuine concern for student well-being has garnered trust from both students and parents.

He interacts with students in a firm, fair, considerate, and consistent manner, and his relationships with staff, students, and parents are marked by mutual respect.

For his dedication to students and expertise in cultivating mutually beneficial relationships, Block received special recognitions from the Oak Park Unified School District Governing Board.
