Samohi Lady Vikings Volleyball Crush Morningside 3-0:

The Vikings defense holds strong on the final point of the game defeating Morningside 25-8

Santa Monica High School (4-0) overpowered the Morningside (0-4) Monarchs in three straight games 25-8, 25-5, and 25-6 to continue their rise up the ladder in the Southern Section Division 3AA Volleyball Standings and remain at the top of the Ocean League (3-0).

Junior middle blocker Nichelle Gray of the Vikings thought that the game went well against Morningside.

“We focused more during this game then any other match that we have ever played,” said Gray. “Our serving was ok and we only missed five serves in the first match and a few in the last two. Our focus was to do really well and we killed every match.”

Gray thinks that Santa Monica High School Head Coach Liane Sato has been doing a good job of seeing how the Vikings can improve.

“She will sit you down individually and she will explain to you what you need to do and show you how to do it so you can become a better player,” said Gray. “With me, I have a tough time with blocking and she will show me how to get over a certain way. She is really good.”

Gray thinks the 2012 volleyball season has been going very well for the Santa Monica High School Vikings.

“We have won every game,” said Gray. “We are staying focused and we are really trying to push hard this year.”
