Santa Monica police arrested a 31-year-old man with a warrant out for his arrest for spousal abuse on Friday, Nov. 16.
At 10:05 a.m. officers of the Santa Monica Police Department were on routine patrol in the 1500 block of Palisades Park when they happened upon a man who was sitting on a bench in the park.
The eagle-eyed officers spotted some tattoos on this man.
These were not just tattoos of the general kind, but they were tattoos that signified that this man was a gang member.
The officers asked this man if he was a gang member and he told them that yes, indeed (probably not these exact words), he was a member of a street gang.
The officers continued to converse with the self-confessed gangster, who informed them that he had just been released from county jail, and showed them his jail wristband as evidence just in case the officers found this hard to believe.
The officers used their computer equipment to discover that this member had a warrant out for his arrest for spousal abuse in Colorado.
The officers confirmed the warrant, and this 31-year-old homeless gang member was arrested under a fugitive warrant, and is currently awaiting extradition to the State of Colorado.
Bail was not granted, of course.
