Windward Invitational Gives Westside Track And Field Athletes Competitive Edge:

Windward's 400 meter runner Maddox Kay runs a personal best (57.99) during the boys second heat in the Windward Invitational Track and Field Meet at Santa Monica College Friday afternoon.

The Windward Invitational Track and Field meet brought together numerous athletes from the Los Angeles area that included Brentwood, Archer, Crossroads, Pacifica Christian, and Windward high schools offering Westside athletes a chance to compete against each other at Santa Monica College Friday afternoon.

2012 Olympian Prince Mumba, who coaches Cross Country at Windward High School, said that he thought the meet was important for all the participants.

“This is the first track meet for the high schools and it is really important for them,” said Mumba. “It helps them prepare for their league meets next week.”

Windward runner Maddox Kay said that he enjoyed the meet because he ran a personal best posting a time of 57.99 in the 400 meter.

“It was a good experience because we got to run with other people then we normally get to run with,” said Kay.  “It felt great to get my new PR.  When I came around there (the bend), I was feeling bad but I pushed through.”
