Former Democratic Assemblywoman Betsy Butler, who lost in a close race to Santa Monica Mayor Richard Bloom for the 50th Assembly District last year, will seek the 62nd Assembly District seat of termed out Assemblyman Steven Bradford, D-Gardena, in 2014, according to The Sacramento Bee.

In a letter to friends and supporters that was acquired by the Bee, Butler (who lives in Marina del Rey) said she has lived in the 62nd District for more than two decades.

The 62nd District Venice, Playa del Rey, El Segundo, Inglewood, and Westchester.

“It would be an honor to return to the Assembly to build on the work we did to create healthier, safer, more fair communities and give a voice to the unheard,” Butler said in the letter. “…We fought for consumer rights, regulations for the dangerous practice of fracking and for safe working conditions for our farmworkers.”

Butler had served the 53rd Assembly District since assuming office Dec. 6, 2010, which encompassed parts of Los Angeles and the South Bay.

However, under the 2011 redistricting lines, the 53rd Assembly District changed significantly and Butler chose to run for re-election in the open 50th Assembly District that represents Agoura Hills, Beverly Hills, Hollywood, Malibu, Santa Monica, Pacific Palisades, Topanga, West Hollywood, and Westlake Village.
