Springs Fire Expected To Be Contained Monday; 28,000 Acres Burned To Date:

Cal Fire expects to have the Springs fire in Ventura County contained on Monday.

Cal Fire reports that the Springs fire in Ventura county is 60 percent contained as of 6:30 am Sunday morning with containment expected on Monday.

So far the fire has burned 28,000 acres resulting in 25 outbuildings being destroyed, 15 damaged residences, five damaged commercial properties, and 15 damaged outbuildings.

Cal Fire reports there is minimal fire activity as of Sunday morning.

“Remaining firefighters continue to construct control lines, mop up operations and patrol the fire perimeter,” Cal Fire reports on its website. “Fire suppression repair and rehabilitation has begun within the fire area.”

The demobilization of firefighting resources is continuing road closures; Potrero Road is closed between Reino Road and Hidden Valley.

Meanwhile, the American Red Cross is operating three evacuation centers, providing food, water, and comfort for those who have had to leave their neighborhoods and standing by if additional assistance is needed.

— Thousand Oaks Community Center at 2525 N. Moorpark Rd., Thousand Oaks

— Calvary Chapel at 380 Mobil Avenue, Camarillo

— Malibu High School at 30215 Morning View Dr., Malibu

“Our hearts go out to everyone affected by the fire,” said Jim McGee, regional chief executive officer for the Red Cross serving Ventura County.  “The Red Cross has trained volunteers ready to help those in need.”
