St. Monica Football Open League Play With Easy Win: Mariners cruise past Bellarmine-Jefferson

The Mariners are still keeping it rolling. St. Monica’s football team continued its season-long stellar play, steamrolling past Bellarmine-Jefferson 36-0 for an easy road win. The victory was the first of the season for the Mariners in Santa Fe League play.

St. Monica play at St. Genevieve this Saturday in a game between the two top teams in the Santa Fe League. St. Genevieve has posted an overall 4-2 record, while St. Monica will enter the contest with a 3-4 mark. If the playoffs were to begin this week, St. Monica would be on the outside looking in for room in the postseason.

Currently, the Mariners are ranked in 13th place in the Southern Section Division Northeast XIII football playoff format. That means that how the Mariners play the rest of the season will determine if they make the postseason or not. One of the reasons why the Mariners are not ranked as high as other teams in the section is because of their strength of schedule.

With only three games remaining on their regular season schedule, the Mariners may have to win out in order to get into the playoffs. At least they are on the right track. The Mariners’ third win of the season came just a week after St. Monica went down in defeat to Carpinteria.
