This wasn’t a fair matchup for the Beverly Hills High School football team. The Santa Monica Vikings proved to be too fast, too big, and too much for Beverly Hills to handle in their Ocean League contest last Friday night.
The end result was a 76-0 whipping at the hands of the Vikings, which inched closer to a possible Ocean League title should they get past Culver City in this week’s Game of the Week.
It wasn’t a fair contest from the beginning as Beverly Hills entered the game winless through its first six games. Prior to playing Samohi, the Normans had been outscored 154-13 in the three games leading up to this one-sided contest.
On the flip side, after losing to Hart, Samohi has rumbled through its last two opponents, including Beverly Hills, 117-6.
Culver City may not be as generous as Beverly Hills, who was celebrating their homecoming that the Vikings clearly spoiled. The win moves Samohi to a 4-3 overall record, 2-0 in Ocean League play.
As the playoffs inch closer, Samohi remains locked in the No.4 seed behind three other teams in Western Division IV.
Santa Monica has won the last two Ocean League titles. Should the Vikings get by Culver City with a win, it is likely they will be on the path to capture a third crown with only lightly regarded opponents Hawthorne and Inglewood standing in the way.
Running back Kwame Duggins, who scored three touchdowns against the Normans, could be the key factor in the Vikings’ highly anticipated contest against Culver City. The passing of quarterback Nico Basile could also be the difference.
