The Giving Spirit, a nonprofit that provides aid to women, children and families in Los Angeles who are left vulnerable due to homelessness, handed out free kits earlier this month that contained 60 items for winter survival.

From Dec. 12-15, hundreds of volunteers with The Giving Spirit’s winter outreach program assembled and distributed 2,600 survival kits to homeless children and adults living on the streets from downtown Los Angeles to Santa Monica and Venice and from the San Fernando Valley to the Inland Empire.

Since 1999, The Giving Spirit has given away 28,000 winter survival kits and summer backpacks.
