MC Opens At Victor Valley

The Santa Monica College football team will open its season Saturday at Victor Valley following a long bus ride to Victorville.

The following Saturday, September 10, SMC will play its home opener with a non-conference game at Corsair Field against Fullerton. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.

Robert Taylor returns as the Corsairs’ longtime head coach.

 

Silva Follows Smith As SMC Track Coach 

Larry Silva, who has been in the Santa Monica College men’s track program as an assistant coach, has been promoted to head coach following the retirement of former Olympian Tommie Smith.

Silva will also coach the school’s men’s cross country team, which is beginning its season.

“We received numerous recommendations about Larry since the job became open,’’ said SMC Athletic Director Rhonda Hyatt. “He is very well-known and well- respected in the sport.’’Silva’s credentials also include coaching with the Santa Monica Track Club.
