Venice/Santa Monica Modern Home Tour This Weekend:

This weekend, take a walk through Santa Monica or Venice and view some of the residences you pass along the way as a glass house. Better yet, instead of looking at a residence from the outside and wondering how it looks on the inside, how about you actually walk into the home and see for yourself how it is decorated.

The third annual Venice/Santa Monica Modern Home Tour takes place Saturday, May 3, allowing walkers a rare chance to personally walk into participating homes. Not only will tour-goers find out what it is like to live in certain modern-style homes, they will also be able to pick the brain of architects to find their respective sources of inspiration.

A self-guided and self-driven tour, guests will be able to explore the participating homes at their own pace.

The benefitting non-profit partner for this year’s Modern Home Tour is the A + D Architecture and Design Museum, Los Angeles, which will help staff the event. Donations are suggested as the A + D Architecture and Design Museum is using the Modern Home Tour as a fundraising event.

Highlighted on the 2014 Venice/Santa Monica Modern Home Tour are the following homes:

A home designed by Deborah Richmond Architects featuring a ground floor office space and upstairs living quarters with views of the Westside. From the upstairs deck, the resident can reportedly view the Getty Museum, Marina del Rey, and the Santa Monica Mountains.

A home renovated by Coscia Day Architecture that reportedly opens on three sides of the living area, thanks to pivoting and sliding doors. A third floor reportedly offers ocean views;

A home designed by Ortiz Mexia Projects, Inc., and reportedly made of materials to represent both endurance and simplicity;

A home designed by Shubin + Donaldson Architects reportedly without a television and self-produces its own electricity. The home also has a large open indoor space reportedly to promote more human interaction;and, a compound reportedly with two complete residences on site. One residence features four bedrooms with an open floor plan while the other is a three-bedroom home with high ceilings and views of the surrounding area. This home is reportedly on the market and asking $3.48 million.

To find out more about the participating homes, visit the 2014 Venice/Santa Monica Modern Home TourÕs website at http://modernhometours.com/event/venice. Interactive maps of the homes on the tour are available on the website.

This year’s featured homes are located at the following addresses:

— 937 Centinela Avenue, Santa Monica

— 535 East Channel Road, Santa Monica

— 1378 Appleton Way, Venice

— 2129 Linden Avenue, Venice

The viewing will take place from 11 am to 5 pm on Saturday. Tickets are $25 if purchased online in advance or $30 the day of the tour. Kids under the age of 12 are free if a parent accompanies them.

The Venice/Santa Monica Modern Home Tour is organized by Austin, Texas, based Modern Home Tours LLC. Matt Swinney and James Leasure founded the company in 2010 and put together tours in several cities across the United States and Canada.
