Santa Monica Tourism Jobs Increase 5.6 Percent From 2012:

Earlier this week, the Santa Monica Convention & Visitors Bureau (SMCVB) announced that 12,908 Santa Monica jobs were supported by tourism in 2013, a 5.6 percent increase from 2012.

In recognition of U.S. Travel Rally Day and the many hospitality employees who contribute to Santa Monica’s reputation as a world-class destination, SMCVB and Pacific Park on the Santa Monica Pier invite hospitality employees to a free ride on the Pacific Wheel this Tuesday, May 6 from 12-3 pm.

“Tourism supports 14.9 million jobs nationwide and is one of Santa Monica’s most dynamic economic drivers,” said SMCVB President/CEO Misti Kerns. “It’s important that we recognize the positive impacts tourism has on our community and celebrate the many local employees whose livelihoods depend on it. Since our hospitality community is known for providing visitors with referrals of places to see in Santa Monica, it seemed fitting to return the favor and invite them to relax above the Pacific Ocean and enjoy one of our city’s best views.”

Santa Monica hospitality employees can receive their free ride pass by bringing their business card to the Pier Shop & Visitor Center located in the historic Looff Hippodrome on Tuesday, May 6 between 12-3 pm.

Santa Monica’s celebration of National Travel & Tourism Week does not end there. The 5th Annual Santa Monica Travel and Tourism Summit will be held on Friday, May 9 where the full 2013 Economic Impact Report results will be released and the future outlook for Santa Monica’s travel and tourism landscape will be discussed.

This year’s Thelma Parks Tourism Spirit Award winner will also be announced. The award honors exceptional employees in the hospitality and tourism industry.

For more information about the summit and to RSVP, visit, www.santamonica.com/summit-invite or call 310.319.6263. Deadline to RSVP is Tuesday, May 6 and space is limited.
