Santa Monica One Of The Most Stressed Out USA Suburbs:

Real estate brokerage site Movoto has published an article on the most stressed suburbs across the USA, ranking Santa Monica as number two out of 137 suburbs.

The criteria looked at unemployment rate, crime, cost of living, and work hours.

“We’ve got to say we were surprised about this one, but the numbers really tell the story,” according to Movoto. “Santa Monica had the second highest cost of living on our list and the ninth highest population density. While those might not be the most stressful factors, they combine with high scores across the board, with no ranking being in the bottom half.”

Movoto said the biggest factor was the percent of income spent on rent, for which this city ranked third.

“Locals spend a total of 39 percent of their income on rent, which leaves little left over for that very high cost of living,” Movoto said. “This is definitely a place that could cling to the slogan ‘The rent is too damn high.’”
