Letter To The Editor: Backing Israel Analysis Refreshing:

Dear Editor,

We enjoyed reading Tom Elias’ piece “Senators Barbara Boxer, Dianne Feinstein: Different Routes In Backing Israel” in The Mirror on August 8. We would add to your refreshing analysis that mainstream media glosses over the fact that Hamas is a religious organization with a faith-based contract with Allah, their supreme being – who they believe mandated their mission.

People seem to forget, or are not aware, that their charter as you mentioned, advocates to eliminate the state of Israel and kill Jews, not only in that country, but globally. What a frightening thought!

But they are not about to repudiate their charter and indeed CANNOT. It’s as if the Jews repudiated their Torah and a practicing Christian disavowed his/her belief in the divinity of Jesus.

It is delusional to think that Hamas would have ‘a road to Damascus’ moment and convert to sanity with Israel and their neighbors; sadly, we cannot help being pessimistic about the situation witnessing the recrudescence of anti-semistism around the globe, given the biased facts we read in the media from most sources, US and international.

Thank you again for the clarity of your article, and hopefully it will be picked up by the Los Angeles Times!

Best,
