Santa Monica History Museum To Host Gala Dinner Sept. 21:

The Santa Monica History Museum will host a gala dinner on Sept. 21 to celebrate the 90th anniversary of the first around the world flight in Donald Douglas cruisers.

Susan Gabriel-Potter is the chair of this event while Eddie Guerboian will be the master of ceremony.

It dinner will be held at the Casa del Mar Hotel. Cocktails begin at 5 pm followed by a silent auction, dinner, and entertainment.

The first honoree is Beverly Hoskinson, who for 50 years led corporate employee giving programs that provided more than $100 million in funding for vital community services in Southern California through Douglas Aircraft Company, McDonnell Douglas, and Boeing.

The second honoree is Angel Flight West, a non-profit volunteer-driven organization that had provide free emergency air travel for children and adults with serious medical conditions for more than 30 years.

A memorial tribute will be paid to Mark Benjamin, philanthropist and community leader, former president and CEO of Morley Builders.

Larry Balmagia, television writer and producer, will narrate the history of the famous flight that put Santa Monica on the map. The flight in 1924 was one of the most sensational aviation events in history. The Douglas Cruisers took off from Clover Field (now Santa Monica Airport) and when the flyers returned, Clover Field was covered with roses and they were mobbed by a huge crowd.

Each dinner attendee and ad subscriber will receive a commemorative history Gazette newspaper with photographs and details about the museum and the world flight.
