Disappointing Summer Movie Season Continues At Weekend Box Office:

Summer is over, but Hollywood’s disappointing summer movie season continued this weekend, with the only new film failing to crack the top 10.

Guardians Of The Galaxy was number one again, in its sixth week of exhibition, with a comparatively-weak $10.2 million in weekend sales.

On the positive side, “Guardians” has now surpassed $294 million domestically and $586 million globally for Disney and its Marvel Comics brand.

The remake of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles was second, with a projected $6.5 million in weekend sales, according to studio estimates gathered by Rentrak, an industry tracking company. “Turtles” is in its fifth week of showing and has $174.6 million in the till domestically.

If I Stay showed staying power, with $5.8 million in weekend sales and $39.7 million accumulated over three weeks.

The only debut to make the charts this weekend was The Identical, which opened in 11th place with $1.9 million in gross sales.

Rounding out the top 10 movies, judged by ticket sales estimates from the U.S. and Canada over the three-day weekend, were Let’s Be Cops ($5.4 million), The November Man ($4.2 million), As Above, So Below ($3.7 million), When The Game Stands Tall ($3.7 million), The Giver ($3.6 million), The Hundred-Foot Journey ($3.2 million) and Lucy ($1.9 million).
