Low Budget “Ouija” Opens At Top Of Box Office:

“Ouija” and “John Wick” debuted as the number one and number two flicks in North America this weekend, as Hollywood enjoys a strong fall season.

A $20 million opening was reported for “Ouija,” a spooky and low-budget accounting of a group of friends who awaken evil spirits with a board game.

“John Wick” did an estimated $14.2 million in estimated sales on its opening weekend. That movie is about a bitter gunman taking revenge against the gangsters who took everything from him.

“Fury,” in its second week of showings, dropped to third place with a $13 million tally this weekend.

Rentrak analyst Paul Dergarabedian said “the post-summer season continues its consistently strong run.”

Rounding out the top 10 movies this weekend, as estimated by the studios and collated by Rentrak, were “Gone Girl” ($11.1 million), “The Book Of Life” ($9.8 million), “St. Vincent” ($8 million), “Alexander And The Terrible, Horrible, No Good Very Bad Day” ($7 million), “The Best Of Me” ($4.7 million), “The Judge” ($4.3 million) and “Dracula Untold” ($4.3

million).
