City Of Santa Monica To Host Sustainable Landscape & Rain Barrel Event Saturday:

The City of Santa Monica will host a Sustainable Landscape and Rain Barrel event dubbed as a one-stop shop for equipment, expert help, and cash rebates this Saturday, Nov. 15.

It will be held from 9 am to 1 pm at the Santa Monica College parking lot at 1744 Pearl Street, Santa Monica.

With generous cash rebates, and a little helping hand from Sustainable Works and partners, it has never been easier to create a sustainable landscape for your home.

And, everyone gets in on the action for what is the largest rain barrel event on the Westside.

For Santa Monica residents, rain barrels, including the latest designer models from RainReserve, are essentially being given away, and that goes for the plants and drip irrigation equipment as well (through the City of Santa Monica’s Rain Barrel, Landscape and Drip Irrigation rebates.

And rebates are available for non-Santa Monica residents too.

The changing patterns in rainfall, where rain comes heavier but less frequently, has prompted happy rain barrel owners of one or two rain barrels to invest in more.

“It’s not uncommon to see homes with two 100 gallon rain barrels for every downspout of their home,” said Omar Galal, President of RainReserve, a US-based company that manufactures and distributes rain harvesting products.

The average April and May rainfall in the LA water basin would generate over 750 gallons of harvestable rainwater on your typical single family home. That comes out to 62 gallons per week available during the dry summer months.

All you have to do is reserve your rain barrels, show-up at the event to collect them, install them, and submit your rebate application within 60 days.

Santa Monica residents are eligible to receive a rebate for the full cost of up to (8) 50 gallon rainwater harvesting systems.

The effort is sponsored by the City of Santa Monica’s Office of Sustainability and the Environment. Proceeds from the rain barrel sale will support the efforts of Sustainable Works.

For event details, and to guarantee a rain barrel, supplies are limited, homeowners should pre-order online at rainreserve.com/santamonica.
