Heavy rain over the Colby Fire burn area early today triggered a debris flow onto a residential property and prompted the National Weather Service to issue flash flood warnings for the hills above Glendora.
The NWS issued a flash flood warning after a storm dumped hail and heavy rain across the foothills of the San Gabriel Mountains, from Pasadena to as far east as Claremont.
A 4-foot-high flow of debris went through a residence in the 1100 block of Easley Canyon Road around 3:45 a.m., Los Angeles County Fire Department Supervisor Kyle Sandford said. An earlier debris flow covered a vehicle in the driveway of the residence, Sandford said.
Crews using hand tools and heavy equipment were working this morning to remove the mud and debris. County fire Inspector Rick Flores urged area residents to inspect their properties and to have an evacuation plan in place as a precaution.
In January, the Colby Fire consumed 1,992 acres in the Angeles National Forest. The blaze destroyed five homes and damaged 17 others while injuring six people, including five firefighters. Three men who started an illegal campfire in the area were later convicted of sparking the wildfire.
