Man Released From Prison, Arrested In Santa Monica For Apartment Break-In Attempt:

Latest police, crime and courts news.

A 42-year-old Santa Monica man recently released from prison was arrested on Thursday, April 9, after trying to break into an apartment building.

Officers of the Santa Monica Police Department received a report at 4:50 am of a possible burglary in progress at an apartment building in the 1000 block of Second Street.

When the officers arrived at the location they spotted the suspect attempting to force his way into one of the apartments in the building.

The officers detained the suspect who told them that he was released early from his prison sentence and was at the building in order to visit a girlfriend.

The officers investigated further and their inquiries revealed that none of the residents of the apartment building had ever seen the suspect before, nor had any of them ever heard of this man.

The officers arrested this resident of Santa Monica (and prison) and he was charged with violation of probation and attempted burglary. Bail was not granted.

Editor’s Note: These reports are part of a regular police coverage series entitled “Alert Police Blotter” (APB), which injects some minor editorial into certain police activities in Santa Monica. Not all of The Mirror’s coverage of incidents involving police are portrayed in this manner. More serious crimes and police-related activities are regularly reported without editorial in the pages of the Santa Monica Mirror and its website, smmirror.com.
