A 29-year-old Santa Monica man was arrested on Sunday, July 5, after assaulting his wife during an argument.
Officers of the Santa Monica Police Department responded to a call regarding a family disturbance at 12:45 am that had been taking place in a residence located in the 1500 block of 16th Street.
Upon arrival the officers spoke with the victim who told the officers that she had been involved in an argument with her husband.
The argument, she stated, was caused by the husband had becoming enraged because he wanted to leave the home wearing some nice new clothes that she had purchased for him, and she didn’t want him to do that.
She informed the officers that she had told the husband that she would prefer that he left the nice new clothes at her residence.
The husband, upon hearing this, had proceeded to rip the nice new shirt off and tear it in half.
The husband then went on to destroy all the other nice new items of clothing that the victim had purchased for him.
The victim then said that they had become engaged in a physical conflict during which the husband had allegedly hit and pushed the victim. She added that she had been able to break away and call 911.
The officers observed the evidence and based upon what they saw and the statements of the victim they arrested this Santa Monica resident and he was later charged with spousal abuse. Bail was set at $20,000.
