31 Santa Monica Merchants Unite For Buy Local, Give Local Week Sept. 12 – 20:

Santa Monicans, assemble!

In a citywide display of local unity and support, major merchant hubs are partnering with community non-profits for the annual Buy Local, Give Local Week.

Created and coordinated by Buy Local Santa Monica, the collaborative movement will rally shoppers, diners, fitness enthusiasts and more to 31 businesses across five merchant associations: Downtown Santa Monica, Main Street, Montana Avenue, Ocean Park Boulevard, and Pico Boulevard.

Each business will host a unique charitable promotion from Sept. 12 to 20, with proceeds benefitting Heal the Bay, Westside Food Bank, Santa Monica-Malibu Education Foundation, Westside Family Health Center, and The Viking Fund.

Dining and shopping is just one way for locals to engage Buy Local, Give Local Week. The Westside Food Bank is hosting a peanut butter drive during its Montana Avenue partnership, where donations of three jars can be exchanged in participating storefronts for savings and rewards.

Additionally, the American Cancer Society Discovery Shop Santa Monica is fronting a week of events, including a Summer Clearance Sidewalk Sale and Fall Preview Event.

“Every dollar raised during Buy Local, Give Local Week will go toward important programs that ensure all kids in our community receive an excellent education,” says Linda Gross, Executive Director for the Santa Monica-Malibu Education Foundation. “These programs include arts education for every elementary student, instructional assistants in elementary classrooms and grants for each school that make science, technology, counseling and other essential enrichment possible. We are excited to be partnering with Downtown Santa Monica, Inc. and the City of Santa Monica on this wonderful event.”

According to Buy Local Santa Monica, approximately 78 cents of each dollar spent locally stays in the community. The organization was created by the Santa Monica business community and the City of Santa Monica to support local businesses and encourage local buying that strengthens a thriving community. In championing a local-first mentality, it raises awareness about the economic, environmental and community benefits of buying local replique montre.
