Swimmers, Surfers Warned To Stay Out Of Water After Rain Advisory:

The latest surf news.

Los Angeles County health officials warned beach-goers today to be careful swimming near storm drains, creeks or rivers that dump into the ocean, since the recent rainfall likely carried bacteria-laden runoff to enter the water.

The county Department of Public Health issued a rain advisory for all Los Angeles County beaches until 7 am Friday, warning that bacteria, debris, trash and other health hazards from rain runoff could be present in the ocean near discharge sites and make swimmers sick.

“Discharging storm drains, creeks and rivers only comprise a small portion of the beach, therefore, anybody who wants to go to the beach will still be able to enjoy their outing,” according to the department. “Swimmers and surfers are advised to stay away from discharge sites.”

Information on beach conditions is available 24 hours a day on the beach closure hotline, 800.525.5662. Information is also available online at www.publichealth.lacounty.gov/beach.
