Hot Flash: The Best Things About Being Over 50:

I was on the Internet the other day and stumbled across a story from Wed MD. It was all about all the good stuff that occurs when a women turns 50. They listed the 50 best things about being 50. I chose the ones that resonated with me and I hope you can relate to them as well. Here goes:

We don’t sweat the little things any more – and we’ve learned that darn near everything is a little thing! So true. I can’t believe what used to keep me up at night. Some things didn’t even exist. Now I sleep like a baby.

A world of opportunities opens up when you turn 50. Today, there are entire web sites, companies, and services devoted to the over-50 demographic. I’ve been preaching this for years. This is why Hot Flash Universe exists!

Women over 50 are a powerful market force in today’s economy. Women buy 80 percent of consumer goods and services, and among the 80 million baby boomers, that’s power. I’ve been preaching about this one for years as well. Millennials, wake up! You’re missing out on a lot of our cash.

You know what you like and what you don’t like. If someone is trying to talk you into wearing orange because it’s trendy, you don’t let them influence you. Orange is not the new black in my book. Black will always be the new black for me. It’s classic, you can pop it out with a little color, and it’s slimming. And you don’t have to get shoes to match the outfit.

It’s a time of self-reflection. You thought the glass ceiling would make you happy and fulfilled. Now you’re looking for your purpose in life, looking for work you love to do.

This is so true for me. In addition to loving all of my clients (which was always not the case) since I turned 50, I discovered I was pretty good at nature photography, and developed a line of notes cards from the photos. I also started my local Hot Flash Universe column and TV show, and started the blog Good Taste LA.

You laugh a lot, and laugh out loud. You don’t have to be “perfect” because no one’s perfect. This is one of the most important lessons I’ve learned in my life. And, I never laughed so hard and had so much fun in my life than in the last couple of years.
