Eddie Lopez’s Family Pens Letters to Thank the Community:

Eddie Lopez Memorial

By Margaret Molloy

Ten years ago this month, 15-year-old Eddie Lopez was shot and killed while walking with friends near Virginia Avenue Park. The popular Santa Monica High School student and passionate baseball player was loved by many in the community.

On Sunday, February 28, a memorial mass for Eddie was held at St. Monica Catholic Church. The church was full. The family thanks Monsignor Torgerson for his support.

Many friends and family gathered at Virginia Avenue Park for a potluck meal afterwards. Many of Eddie’s SAMOHI friends were there. The Lopez family appreciates all of the support.

Dear Community,

I have good memories of all the kids who know and love Eddie.

I appreciate their support of me and Danny and my family.

Thank you TammyMontanari & Jenny Monbouquette for always helping Eddie.

Arminda Lopez, Eddie’s mom

Dear friends,

All these visitors to my sister are wonderful and thank you for all the support you have given to my sister and Danny. I love you too.

Concepcion Lopez, Eddie’s aunt.

Dear Community,

Since he was a little kid Eddie always had baseball in his mind.

Each time I hear about even a hug that my mom gets unexpectedly it lights her up and I feel that it is Eddie reaching out to her beyond the grave.

If you have my brother in your heart don’t be afraid to give my mother a hug when you see her.

Danny Lopez, Eddie’s brother.
