The Santa Monica High girls basketball team has a 16-2 record. In Ocean League play, it has won five games and lost one. The team that handed Samohi its only league loss, Beverly Hills, will play at Samohi Friday night at 6 p.m.The outcome will likely determine whether Beverly Hills will be the league champion or will be tied by Samohi for first place.Since losing at Beverly Hills, 44-42, Samohi has won three straight games, Last week Samohi routed Hawthorne, 77-12 and won at Morningside, 52-40.The Crossroads girls lost two games last week. bringing their overall record to 3-13, including 2-4 in league play. Crossroads was defeated by Campbell Hall, 47-25 and edged by Scott Academy, 40-39.St. Monica was defeated at St. Matthias, 55-36. The Mariners are 7-9 overall and 2-3 in league games.Brentwood lost to Hart, 69-54 but came back with a 53-49 win over Montclair Prep, giving the Eagles an 11-5 overall record, including 4-2 in league games.Malibu routed Glendale Adventist in a non-league game, 42-16, lost to Thacher, 43-27 and defeated Santa Clara, 52-48. The overall record is 10-7.In the Western League, returning league Player of the Year Ivory Blockmon is having another solid season for Venice, which has a 16-5 record and is undefeated in league games with six wins.Last week, Venice defeated University, 67-31 and Westchester, 62-49. Blockmon and Shannon Nakanine are both averaging 13 ppg.Palisades evened its league record at 3-3 by defeating Hamilton, 50-29.In boys’ games, St. Monica had a couple of close road losses. The Mariners were defeated by St. Anthony, 56-50 and Cantwell-Sacred Heart, 58-52. St. Monica is 9-11 overall and 2-4 in league games.New Roads lost to Ribet Academy, 59-57 but came back with a 73-62 victory over Rolling Hills Prep, 73-62. The overall record is 12-6, including 2-2 in the Harbor League. Brentwood routed Kilpatrick, 66-22 but lost to Montclair Prep, 62-51 in Olympic League games. Andreas Schreiber scored 15 in the loss and Casey Hursh had 13. The Eagles are 10-11 overall and 2-3 in the league.Malibu ended a four-game losing streak with a pair of victories. The Sharks defeated Thacher, 48-42 and Santa Clara, 52-48. In the latter game Cheyenne Weeky scored 18 points. The overall record is 7-13, including 1-4 in the Frontier League.In the Western League, Venice lost to Westchester, 79-52, despite 23 points by Noah Gottlieb, but had a 62-43 win at University. The Gondoliers have a 7-9 record, including 2-4 in the league.Palisades lost a one-sided game to Westchester, 95-63 and also lost to Hamilton, 83-68. The Dolphins are 10-10 overall and 3-3 in the league.
