Santa Monica Conservancy celebrates 5th Annual Nick Gabaldon Day:

Gabaldon Day Celebration

The Santa Monica Conservancy will join Heal the Bay, the Black Surfers Collective, the Surf Bus Foundation and other groups to celebrate the life and legacy of Nack Gabaldon, Santa Monica Bay’s first documented surfer of African and Mexican American descent, Saturday June 4 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Inkwell, Tower 20.

At this event, Historian Alison Rose Jefferson and Conservancy volunteers will provide visitors with information about Gabaldon and the African-American community that gathered at Inkwell Beach during the Jim Crow Era, as well as about the Conservancy and preservation.
